History
The station buildings date from about 1875–77. Historic England calls Hanwell the least altered example of the stations rebuilt in the 1870s, when the Great Western Railway's tracks were doubled from two to four. (Historic England)
The railway itself opened through Hanwell on 4 June 1838. Ealing Council's history notes that at first four trains ran each way every day. (Ealing Council) Just west of the station the line crosses the Brent valley on the Wharncliffe Viaduct.
